TWO CHILD PREDATORS ARRESTED IN UNDERCOVER INVESTIGATIONS
Two child sexual predators are facing as much as 15 years in prison if found guilty on charges of traveling to meet a minor and lewd and lascivious conduct. The arrests are the result of ongoing undercover investigations in which the two suspects in separate incidents arranged to meet a 14-year-old female for sex.
In the first case the suspect, identified as Robert Bowen, (DOB 11/05/1984) made contact online with whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl. The two exchanged contact information after which Bowen began making conversation about sexual acts he wished to engage in with the female. The conversation then led to a planned meeting on December 29th where the suspect travelled from St. Cloud to an undisclosed location. The suspect stated he would be driving a PT Cruiser. Officers located the vehicle and the suspect was arrested.
The second case occurred one week later on January 5th. The suspect in this case is identified as Steven Bernhard, (DOB 03/11/1959). Bernhard made online contact with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl and arranged to travel from Melbourne to meet her for sex. In online conversations with the girl he was specific in the sexual activity he wished to engage in with her. The meet time and location were agreed upon and officers were able to arrest the suspect when he arrived. “These child predators have a significant online presence,” said Detective Debra Titkanich. “We will continue to have our own online presence in order to prevent them from finding a true victim.”
Steven Bernhard is being held in the Brevard County Jail on a combined $85,000 bond. Robert Bowen is being held on $70,000 bond.
